I had a lovely visit with my apprentice Michelle Bradway last night. Here are some photos she took while visiting. I have began to set out my palette for my next collection release.
Still working on this grasshopper. I am behind on #marchmeetthemaker, ugh. I will get back on track tomorrow. I have had such a busy week. We started remodeling our bathroom. And I have tried to keep my kids out of the house because of all the noise. I am ready for the weekend. Hopefully I can get in my studio for a bit. 😬🙏
Today’s #marchmeetthemaker is #photography! It’s hard for me! Especially because my paintings are sparkly! But I think I am getting better at it 😬I have a couple cameras, but I’ll be honest, I usually use my phone. I try to take photos from different angles and kind of light to give the feel of the piece. My work is always best experienced in person, though
I’m all about that texture.
I am relearning the best times of day to work in my new studio space. The lighting is just right, right now. Today I am supposed to be cleaning and organizing (still!). I hate cleaning 😭I will hopefully get a picture of my hands at work for today’s #marchmeetthemaker, at some point. ✋👋😬
My tools and materials are seriously out of control. I make my own paints with traditional and non traditional pigments. So, I collect things to use in my paints. I also have a screen printing studio and I do electroforming. So there’s a lot more going on than what is in these photos. Once I finish organizing (I just moved my studio), I will do a video of the space!
Well, I suck at today’s #marchmeetthemaker prompt, the dreaded flat-lay! I am so jealous when I see a cool one. I will keep trying. In the mean time, here are a few pictures of the pieces I have out today.
I took a week off from social media and posting on my blog. I just needed time away from the screen. This is what I am looking at right now. Just thinking about this and that, and framing a series of blue morphos in antique frames. More on those, later.
Well, I made it over the first hump. And I am so proud of myself. Even though I haven’t said much, I said a lot more than I wanted to. Doing a 100 day project that is something that you don’t enjoy doing is HARD. Last time around I found it meditative and comforting. This time around, it is daunting and challenging. But I love it too.
I have such severe anxiety, that it is painful to talk about myself sometimes. I am widely known as the girl who doesn’t talk. Even on social media it is hard. It seems silly, but the anxiety is real. This project is helping me face fear, and also figure out how to articulate things that I have never had the opportunity to speak out loud. This project is helping me get to the next step, which is being a better educator. I am excited.

I took time off from teaching when I had my children. My son is going to be 3 on Saturday (happy birthday Brennan!). Now, I am thankfully, very, very busy painting, so I don’t plan on going back to teaching until my space is finished and I can teach out of my own studio. My hope is to have a space in two years. I have already found a builder. I just need to get the show on the road!
