Bio and Statement
Alexa Karabin is a mixed-media artist, painter, and printmaker whose work blends personal history with innovative techniques. Drawing from her personal heritage, she incorporates her grandmother’s crushed jewelry into her handmade watercolor paints, alongside materials like 24k gold leaf, handmade paper, and glass.
A graduate of the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, where she earned both her Bachelor and Master of Fine Arts degrees, Alexa Karabin specialized in Printmaking and Painting. Her creative process is deeply influenced by her serene surroundings on a 10-acre former Christmas tree farm in Kalamazoo, Michigan.
Her art delves into themes of natural history, memory, and the cyclical nature of time, often showcased in vintage-inspired antique frames that complement her exploration of historical and natural motifs. Through her multi-layered works, Alexa Karabin invites viewers to engage with the interplay of past and present in a richly textured narrative.
