Where to find me this holiday season

I won’t be at my usual spots this year—I’ve decided to mix it up and spread things out! Don’t worry, though; you’ll still have plenty of opportunities to find my work around Michigan!

Kalamazoo:

I’ll have a variety of new pieces, along with some of my favorites, at each location, so be sure to check them all out!

  • Kalamazoo Kitty — My new gallery inside a shop! I’m so proud of this space, and they have a little bit of everything, including items from my studio like art books, supplies, frames, and more!

  • Mainstreet Vintage — Offering affordable framed works, prints, watercolor paint, and more! Be sure to visit this adorable shop in the Crossroads Mall.

  • Starlite Collective in the Park Trades Center — December 6–8.

Greater Grand Rapids Area:

  • Blandford Nature Center Show — November 9th.

  • Lowell Artist Market — Now through January 11th. This charming town is a perfect spot for gift shopping!

Other locations to find my work:

  • Whatever Floats Your Boat — A new shop in Paw Paw, Michigan. It has a little bit of everything!

  • Cellar Door Trades in Saugatuck, Michigan — I just shipped them mini prints and watercolor paints!

Find my Art in Uncommon Goods!

I am so excited to announce my first catalog collaboration! The well-known catalog Uncommon Goods is exclusively selling my Customizable Trees! As some of you know, I live on a former Christmas Tree farm that is overflowing with whimsical and wonky trees! These fused glass sculptures are inspired by the trees that surround my home! My husband, Jason, makes the tree stumps that are customizable with your name! Check them out on Uncommon Goods!

Gilded Nature, A Solo Exhibition by Alexa Karabin

I am so excited to announce my solo exhibition at the Ludington Arts Center! It will be very exciting to see so many pieces in one place. They have a beautiful gallery, and this should be a fun exhibit. I hope some of you are able to visit!

As Seen in Vogue's House and Garden!

I am so excited to announce that my work will be featured in Conde Nast’s (Vogue) international House and Garden through the month’s September, October, and November issues! My work was hand selected to be featured in their magazines. See the feature below.

I had so much fun at Kalamazoo’s Art Hop on April 2nd, 2021! The first in-person event in over a year! I cannot believe it. I felt the Arts Council of Kalamazoo did a wonderful job, safely introducing us back to the world! I want to thank them for their kindness, and for thinking of me to be included in the show. It feels good to be back!

Statement for the Nest:

First, there was the Deer. A painting that was inspired by an incident that involved a deer that was shot on my property, and the subsequent months that followed, watching the animal return to the earth. When only fur was left, I collected some, but left most of it. The day after I collected the fur, a giant oak tree fell on where the body once rested. Months later, in early spring, the pandemic had started and I spent more than a month inside. Scared. Finally, I forced myself to go outside and explore the woods. And that is when I found it. A bird had made a nest out of deer fur! The Deer’s fur. This piece was inspired by the feelings I had at that moment of discovery.

Using a variety of techniques, I create artworks that explore themes of natural history, historical occurrence, memory, and cycles. My materials are found and handmade—my most precious material is my grandmother’s antique jewelry that I crush and use to make handmade watercolors. This piece also includes rubies, emeralds, 24k gold, deer fur, geodes, and glass.
