For the last few years, the lake my mother lives on has been flooded. It has been a rather stressful event, as we experienced the power of nature integrate with our lives. But, there was beauty that came out of the experience, and it was the birds. Instead of being far away at the lakes edge, they were right out her window. Migrating year after year, we watched. As anyone who has spent time near the water knows, it always makes your heart skip a beat when you see a heron. I don’t know why. Maybe it is their grace, maybe it is their resilience. When I saw Erica’s design, I knew this would be our collaboration. I could see it—when herons start to migrate, the ground is still frosted. That is how I would make the heron, frosted in glass, with hope of spring on the horizon.

I taught Erica how to make a watercolor mono-print, a process I used to teach, and I was excited to bring back to my own studio. The background is a one of a kind pull, made out of a watercolor painting that was applied directly to the screen. It is pulled through the screen to create the print. The top layer was an ink I designed and was sprinkled with glass fragments that make it sparkle like frost.

This is a limited run of a pigment prints on handmade paper. Comes matted and ready to fit in an 8’’x10’’ frame. The paper is one of a kind, so expect variation! This is a print of our print collaboration RESILIENCE.
